Mission

Jeslyn is a non-profit modern dance repertory company that is focused on creating and performing new work. Artistic director, Jessica Lynn, along with the company creates motion that is full of exploration of athleticism, sustainment, release and relationships. The vocabulary is of a wide range that can relate to all human experiences.

The company utilizes movement to experiment with both the positive and negative, to relate and to misunderstand, as well as to embrace and to stand apart. Dance is used to express what is in our past, present and future in a way that is constantly in motion. This motion keeps the company active in technique, performances, education and outreach. Jeslyn strives to promote the dance community involving more individuals in this world of movement.

Outreach

Jeslyn is committed to working with and serving various women’s organizations. The company works primarily to improve the lives of women by building self-esteem through movement. This specialization promotes a positive view of women and works to break down some of the negative stereotypes so unnecessarily given by society. The company is involved in working with women’s homeless shelters, prisons/correctional facilities and crisis/wellness centers.

Classes are offered to women using movement as a means of communication and expression. Creative exploration is paired with modern dance technique to produce something that is both positive and productive. Classes incorporate a centered mind-body relationship which relaxes and realigns while the body stays in constant motion.

Jeslyn is a strong supporter of helping those in need by using all performances as a means to benefit the community. If interested please bring a can of food to every performance you attend of Jeslyn. A donation bin will always be placed in the foyer of each performance venue. If you have any questions regarding Jeslyn’s outreach program please feel free to contact the Director of Outreach, Caroline Londergan. Direct all inquires to caroline@jeslyndancegallery.org.

Repertory

2004 Clarity

A work exploring what it feels like to have that precious moment in life when everything makes sense. When there is no questioning and things are seen for what they truly are, all the while knowing that the perfect cycle is a seemless line that will eventually be split no matter how one tries to hold on to the perfection.

2003 Swell

Quirky and invirograting, Swell is a piece based on the book “A girl’s guide to the good life” written by Cynthia Rowley & Ilene Rosenzweig. The work uses text and humor to display some of the fun and not so fun moments of being female.

2002 Unfounded discern within

Inspired by both being and knowing women this work explores the depths of the highs and lows experienced while trying to maintain the all important perfect exterior.
